Grid Lock
A downloadable game for Windows and Linux
If you've ever wondered what Black Jack but with dice and light bulbs was like you've come to the right place
HOW TO PLAY:
Menus are currently click navigated
SPACE KEY to roll dice/hit
Click on an empty slot to place a dice you've rolled (only the first column on the left is currently available)
ENTER KEY to end your turn/hold
Try and get as close to the Target Current as you can placing dice on an electrical panel.
Every 2 full turns (both the NPC and the Player have gone twice), a current is ran to the light in the center.
- If either side has a number greater than the Target Current, the light will blow and anyone over the Target Current will lose points.
- Whoever is closest to the Target Current will get the light bulb and points equivalent to their current.
- If it is a tie, neither character gets the light bulb but they will still get points for the dice count.
First round, both the Player and the NPC can roll and place up to 3 dice for free. Every turn after the first round, both characters can only roll a single dice. (Please note: there is only one instance of the dice on the tables right now. If you want to keep any of your first three dice, place it before you roll again!)
The winner of the previous round goes first in the next round.
You can choose to HOLD instead of placing a dice. If you hold, you can not roll any more dice until the current has gone through. If you roll, you MUST place the dice you rolled or you can not end your turn. The current will be ran early if both characters hold instead of rolling.
Light bulbs give point bonuses at the end of a round. The more you collect, the better your point total. Each light has a different rarity and range of currents it asks for.
Light Type | Color | Rarity | Points Awarded |
Average | Yellow | Common | 20 |
Sturdy | Green | Uncommon | 50 |
Fragile | Purple | Rare | 100 |
As of publishing, both opponent characters only play for 10 rounds. Coil plays it much safer and will try to stay under the current, while Tesla is much more erratic and will absolutely refuse to let you have lights if she can't get it for herself.
Extra Features
Clicking on your panel's wires will change the wire type. Wires can add multipliers to your dice scores when you pull a light bulb or tie, but they can also break if they take enough damage from lights bursting. Every time a light bursts, the wire takes 1 point of damage.
Wire Type | Multiplier | Health |
Gold | x1 | 10 |
Red | x1.5 | 5 |
Green | x2 | 2 |
As of publishing, GOLD wires can not break. Wires are also randomized on click and there is no limit to how many of each you can have.
If a slot has no wire or the wire is broken, the dice value attached to that wire is not added to the current.
Not everything planned was able to be fully implemented but most of the meat is there. Made for Bigmode Game Jam 2025.
